The crew of the Enterprise have traveled back in time from the 24th century to make sure that a pivotal moment in their history occurs, the warp drive rocket launch that would lead to human's first contact with aliens. They find the inventor of warp drive and captain of that crucial launch, Zephraim Cochrane, and make him realize the importance of his role.

Andy and his son Opie are left alone for the weekend without their Aunt Bee. They now have a responsibility to clean up their messes before she gets home. Andy teaches his son how to properly do dishes.

Otis has been a troubled citizen of the town of Maybury, and when he is honored with an award for being a decent of a famous war hero, he graciously declines the honor.
