His parents don't understand and tell him that he has to attend college in order to succeed in life. Bartleby gives examples of successful people who didn't attend college, but it doesn't change his parents' mind.
Kevin asks Oscar questions about how he can use the money received from a loan, and Oscar states that it would be fraud if he didn't use it for the stated purpose. Kevin visits the bank to get a loan for his ice cream store, but he is turned down because his business plan is not convincing.
Elaine comes up with the idea of selling only the top parts of muffins; within days her old boss has opened a muffin-top store, capitalizing on her idea. Elaine needs protection for her idea, which is the role of the patent/trademark system.
