After Plank is called King of the cul-de-sac, Eddy demands a vote between him and Plank to determine the real king. The cul-de-sac participates in an election, and Double D explains the voting process and ensures democracy's integrity through it all. Eddy has a weak campaign and tries to win by discrediting Plank and submitting multiple votes for himself.

Bart and Martin both compete to become class president. Bart soon learns the value of the vote as he concedes to Martin's win.

Chancellor Palpatine is given emergency dictatorial powers by the Galactic Senate to build an army to fight the Republic's enemies. Before these powers were established, he could not legally do so. This army will eventually be used to wipe out the Jedi.

Emperor Palpatine formally announces his plans to turn the representative Galactic Republic into the autocratic Galactic Empire. He also announces his plans to wipe out the Jedi, and lies by claiming they were plotting to destroy the Republic.
