Bud Abbott, the landlord, collects thirteen week's worth of rent at $7 a week from his tenant, Lou Costello. Lou argues that he only owes $28. Perplexed by what Lou is saying, Bud offers to give Lou the room for free if he can prove to him why the answer is $28.

For the division, Abbott can't hold to the 2 when he was dividing 8 from 7. for the multiplication part, he didn't add the place value holder on the second partial product. For the addition part, he added the tens place as ones.

Youre not supposed to put a 1 by the 28. he added and subtracted correctly.

You can't "hold on to the 2" in division, he counted all the numbers as if they were all in the ones place , and he added (a longer way) instead of multiplying.
