Several soldiers have sacrificed their lives to save the life of Private James Ryan. Captain John Miller whispers to Ryan with his dying breath, "Earn this." Many years later, as James Ryan kneels before the grave of John Miller, Ryan quietly says, "I've tried to live my life the best I could. I hope that was enough.
