Akeelah went to turn off the TV but instead, she saw the Scripps Spelling Bee competition instead. After seeing the contestant won the national spelling bee, Akeelah took the initiative to learn the winning word "Brunneous" and added it to the list of other vocabulary words that she was learning on her own.
