Akeelah learns about words' origins, and how, sometimes, big words are really just the combination of smaller words. Along the way, she begins to discover that understanding the context in which a word is used is more valuable than simply memorizing the definition.

The two constant blends of "tr" and "dr" can sound very similar to one another. Shock and Kid Lucky beat box and rap together to switch between "tr" and "dr" in words with the same endings.
At Jacob's request, his father tells him a story about peculiar children. He describes in detail where the children live, their special powers, and why they are forced to stay in the house: they're hiding from something.
Children are interviewed about what makes them special.
As Tip and Oh fly across the sky, they recall their journey together through reenactments and pictures. When Tip falls asleep, Oh takes care of her while driving into the night and appreciating things about the "human world," such as paintings and music. In the second half of the clip, they are suddenly attacked by the Gorg and together, they use their teamwork and survival skills to escape.
Ms. Gruwell creates a final project for her students. She encouraged them the put their diaries into a book just like Anne Frank.
