He also indicates that it will be a difficult battle and that his soldiers have his full support.

Over dinner, Bartleby tries to explain to his parents why it's not necessary for him to go to college. He argues that it's fiscally irresponsible to do so. His parents don't understand and tell him that he has to attend college in order to succeed in life. Bartleby gives examples of successful people who didn't attend college, but it doesn't change his parents' mind.
This speech from Governor Gertrude Lang suggests how important Mr. Holland was to the school, including the students, teachers, and staff. The governor tells everyone about Mr. Holland's impact on the school community. She then tells Mr. Holland that it's time for the school to give back to him.
