When Lucas is bullied, he takes his frustration out on a nearby anthill, rather than standing up to the bully.

He creates this assignment to prove to his students that, despite their age and current situation, they can indeed change the world. Mr. Simonet inspires his students by suggesting that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

They find the inventor of warp drive and captain of that crucial launch, Zephraim Cochrane, and make him realize the importance of his role.
