Lil enjoys a party with her friends, and others in the party find entertainment by gossiping. She soon realizes that the price to pay in order to fit in is to withdraw kindness, and she finds this to be true after the conversation turns to making fun of her twin brother, Phil. She sticks up for him and leaves the party shortly after.
Cintronella Jones catches a man making counterfeit meter sticks and arrests him because he is violating measurement standards. Later, a girl indicates that a meter is standardized across different countries in the world and even on the moon.
The narrator describes how Rockefeller became successful from his past deal with Vanderbilt and how he made a deal with Tom Scott, which resulted in being a far better deal than the one with Vanderbilt. Rockefeller gained control of standard oil, and his profit enabled him to buy out his competitors, gaining a monopoly on standard oil.
