Confucius (Kong Qui) urges the emperor to stop the tradition of burying people alive with their masters because he finds it to be unethical. He advocates for valuing human life and treating others, even slaves, with respect.
The Duke Ling of Wei asks Confucius for his advice on tackling problems in the Wei kingdom. The Wei kingdom has a larger population and is more difficult to govern and susceptible to more disorder as a result. Confucius advocates for educating the populace to improve the moral climate. Then Duke Ling of Wei asks Confucius to support their military, and Confucius declines the offer.
