Ed practices the violin but isn't very good at it. Double D encourages him to practice and believes it will help him improve. Meanwhile, Eddy tries to destroy the violin because of the awful sound coming from it.
Flint's mother gives Flint encouragement when he's feeling down. She suggests he follow the example of great inventors, such as Nikola Tesla and Alexander Graham Bell, who weren't deterred by what other people thought of them. Flint then gets back to work on new inventions.
Elaine feels that she is not capable of running the catalog, but Kramer instills confidence in her to make her feel that she can run it. Their different mindsets are influenced by their basis for comparison: Kramer is dominant in karate because his class is filled with nine-year-olds, while Elaine needs to take the place of her more experienced boss.
