Flint's mother gives Flint encouragement when he's feeling down. She suggests he follow the example of great inventors, such as Nikola Tesla and Alexander Graham Bell, who weren't deterred by what other people thought of them. Flint then gets back to work on new inventions.
A young Flint presents Spray-On Shoes for his show-and-tell project at school. He explains that it solves the problem of untied shoe laces then demonstrates it in action. His classmates are fascinated by his invention but are quick to make fun of him when one classmate, Brent, points out that there is no way to remove the shoes.
